Family,
I thought I would give a quick rundown of my AMAZING St. George Marathon experience:
I left from Provo on Friday, October 3 at about 3:30pm with my roommate Marissa and her married couple friends. It was a fine trip and nice to be with 2 people who were also running the marathon...and had already done it before. I was worried about dinner because I didn't think we stop along the way and I knew I couldn't wait to eat until 7 or 8pm to eat or I would be sick for the marathon. We did end up stopping at about 6:30 and I got some gross chicken fingers and fries from DQ. It actually filled me up. The food was so salty, I thought I would be dehydrated for the marathon.
We finally got to the Marathon Expo (convention) at about 7:30pm. We got our numbers and shoe chips (to track our time) and even marathon shirts and posters. Pretty cool. I ran (haha) into a few friends, including Dustin (a guy from my ward over the summer who convinced me to sign up for it and we never ran together once). I chilled around there for a bit and then called Whitney and Ashley to see where they were.
Whitney and Ashley finally got there at about 8:15, which ended up being perfect. We drove to Hurricane (about 15 minutes away) to our hotel room. I took a shower and climbed into bed at about 10:30. I fell asleep fast, but I kept waking up due to texts, or because it was so hot, etc. My alarm went off at 4am and we all got up. I was so nervous. I hoped that I could actually run it.
We left the hotel at 4:30 and headed to the starting line. I was so scared driving there. It seemed so far away and it was dark outside and raining. Ashley dropped Whit and I off and we got some pictures taken. I was freezing and of course did not prepare for it, so I insisted on borrowing Whitney's sweatshirt. Then I put a garbage bag over it that said: "I heart running!" My roommate Marissa made it. Since it was so cold outside there were fires. I stood by a fire to warm myself. I talked to a few runners that were experienced and they gave me advice. Then I saw Marissa and her brother Kelin. They were going crazy and were so excited. Then Marissa had to go to the bathroom and I never saw her again until after the marathon.
I ran a mile with Kelin and then I was on my own. I was grateful though because I wanted to go at my own pace. I had trained by myself. I was feeling so good. I hit mile 4 and I couldn't belive it. I wasn't listening to my ipod, I was just enjoying the experience, looking around, watching people, etc. The scenery was amazing. Lots of times I would be looking around me and run into people. The canyons, hills, trees, etc. I took Justin's advice and drank gatorade at every moment I could. I also ate these little fruit snack blocks whenever I felt a little hungry and they were perfect.
I knew I would see Whitney at mile 7 and that's when I had planned on giving her the sweatshirt, but I was still kind of cold and it was still raining. I didn't even notice Whitney until I passed her, so I just kept the sweatshirt.
I kept running and got to what they call "Hell's Hill"...the steepest hill of the marathon. It wasn't too bad, but by the time I was done with that hill I was feeling really hot. I had to take the sweatshirt off. I took a quick bathroom break (because of all the gatorade) and took off the sweatshirt. I was sure I would see Whitney again soon, but after about 2 or 3 miles of holding this heavy wet sweatshirt, I threw it to the side of the road. I will have to buy her a new one...
After I got rid of the sweatshirt, it was like I got my second wind. I was at mile 17 and I was feeling great. I turned up my ipod and I was running so fast. Maroon 5 (the music group) got me through some of the hardest parts of the marathon. I was feeling great. After a few miles, my legs started feeling really tired and I slowed down a tiny bit, but then I realized that it hurt more to slow down, so I kept on running.
When I reached mile 20 I couldn't believe it. The furthest I ever ran in my training was 20 miles and I almost died. I was at mile 20 and feeling fine. I about cried. I really was going to finish this marathon. I realized that your prayers helped. I also kept telling myself this phrase that seems silly, but that Marissa told me would help, "relax, power, glide". It actually did help. I was actually enjoying the marathon and had the stamina to do it all!
At mile 22 I ran into Whitney (the movie that you see). She pumped me up and when she said that Ashley was waiting for me at mile 24, it just made me run even faster. I finally got to mile 24 and Ashley was no where to be found. I about cried. Your emotions go crazy after you have been running so long. I thought that she must have left or barely missed me. I began to think that if they are at least waiting for me at the finish line, that was good enough.
After about a half of a mile I saw Ashley. I almost cried. She started running with me. I had told her before to not crack jokes or ask me questions because I would not be feeling very good by that time. She did an awesome job and I wasn't feeling as bad as I thought I would be. She ran with me for a mile and then I told her that I wanted to run the last bit by myself. She ran to the finish line to meet me.
After she left I began to wonder if I should have asked her to run with me a little more. It was tough, but people were cheering on every side. I was so tired. I got to mile 26 and .2 miles seemed so far away. I refused to walk. I know that the Lord lifted my legs to the finish line. I heard people yelling my name, but I was too focused on finishing. Finally I crossed and about collapsed. The lady gave me a medal and a hug. I saw Whitney and Ashley. Whitney was bawling and I was too. Ashley had TE's. It was amazing!
I finished the marathon in about 4 hrs. and 40 minutes. It was amazing. That was faster than I ever trained. I was so proud of myself. I wasn't expecting to finish that early. Like I said in my last e-mail, this has all been such a spiritual experience for me. When I started my training the most I had ever run was 5 miles. No one thought I could run this, even myself, but I was dedicated. I believe that I did so well because I was so dedicated to my training. I never missed a day. The Lord helped me so much too. He answered my prayers. Having Whitney and Ashley there helped me go faster too. The weather made me run faster.
Today I think it is a miracle that I did that. I really believe that I can do anything now. Wow, you have a goal and work hard for it, you can achieve it. I am grateful that I didn't get injured and that the Lord helped me so much to do this. I love you all so much. Enjoy the movie clips.

6 days...
Family,
Welp, it's been quite a week! Here is a little bit of what has been going on in my life:
WORK: Last Friday we had Parent/Teacher Conferences. It is always really nice to get to know the kids and then find out what their parents are like. All but 3 of the parents came. I have a lot of BYU volunteers in my classroom, which is so nice. I love the help. Most of them are people from our ward! I enjoy work and am so blessed to have a job that I love.
TEMPLE: I have now been working at the temple for a month. It has been wonderful. The people are so great and I am learning so much. I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to work there.
SOCIAL: I have been going on dates and such, but nothing awesome. I am kind of into this guy in our ward, but nothing is happening. I am a pretty social girl, so I always find social things to do. Last night we went to Laugh out Loud on campus. That was pretty fun. I enjoy living with Marissa (she teaches 1st grade with me). We thought we would be sick of each other since we teach together and work at the temple together and are doing the marathon together and living together. It has been a lot of fun though...a positive experience.
MARATHON: Well, I only have 6 days until the marathon. I am getting excited and nervous. Any phone calls, prayers, or notes of encouragement would really help. I have been training for 4 months. It has been a long and hard road. Probably one of the hardest things I've done in my life, but a very spiritual experience for me. It should be fun. Thanks to Justin and Melanie for your advice.
OTHER: I start teaching after school on Mondays and Tuesdays tomorrow. It shouldn't be too bad. It's only for an hour after school and I get paid like $20/hr. I started taking an ESL class on Thursday nights (4-7pm) through the district... so it is free. Every night I am pretty busy. It is really nice though. My life is so fulfilling and fun right now. I get to do all the things that I love.
Anyways, I sure love you guys! Write soon!
Love,
Haley

The Latest!
Family--
Welp, it's been a while since I've written, so I thought I would update you real quick on my life.
SCHOOL: Welp, tomorrow is the first day of school. I will be teaching 1st grade this time around. We had Back-to-School night on Thursday and I met a bunch of my students and their parents. I have 23 students in my class...that is a lot. This week has been filled with meetings and getting things ready for school.
WORK: My Preschool job ended Aug. 8, so it has been so nice to only have one job to worry about. Although it was really hard for me, I feel like I learned a lot having that experience this summer.
CHURCH: I am still the FHE Leader Co-chair. Today we got a new bishop and first counselor in our ward. That should make things pretty different. A lot of people have moved out of our ward since it is between summer term and fall semester. Needless to say, things are pretty quiet around here.
MARATHON: I am still training for my marathon at the beginning of October. After watching that Romanian lady run the marathon with 5 minute miles, I am beginning to wonder if I have what it takes. Yesterday I ran 15 miles and that about did me in! I will be happy when I have accomplished this though. It has been a lot of hard work and training. Something I thought I would never be able to do.
SOCIAL: We always do a lot of totally awesome stuff around here. Last weekend we had a ward formal dance and I went on a date flying with this dude named Vernon. He owns his own plane. It made me so sick to fly in it, I thought I was going to die! He also took me rock climbing which was pretty difficult. This summer Ashley and I have been going to comedy shows, we went to Zion's National Park, plays, swimming, hot tubbing, and random parties. It's been a fun summer.
Other than that, I'm sure you've all heard that I am dating someone. He's this guy named Aaron French, although he goes by just French. He is in our FHE group. I've known him since we moved here. We went out on a couple of really fun dates and then we started dating last Sunday officially. It has been great so far. He always comes to the school to help me out and is so considerate. He was out of town this weekend, so it's been kind of lonely. Anyways, here is a picture of me and him. This is at the Ward Formal Dance.
Welp, sure love you guys. Hope to hear from you soon.
Love,
Haley

Welp...
Hey Family!!!
I just thought I'd drop a quick line and let you know what is going down in my life:
MARATHON: Yeah, yesterday I ran 9 miles and it about killed me...that is only a third of what I have to run. I am really begin to question if I will be capable to do this. I don't know if I'm intense enough.
WORK: Yeah, I had to quit my day job to train for the marathon (j/k). But really, my summer school job ended, so now I just have my Preschool job in the afternoons. I fill my mornings with working on stuff for school. I had to move classrooms since I am teaching a different grade next year. It has been a lot of hard work.
SOCIAL: Last weekend I went on a date with this dude to the John Schmidt concert. It was totally awesome. I love the piano! I wish I was better at playing it. Ashley already told you about the other cool stuff we did.
Anyways, I guess that is all for now. I sure love you guys.

Sorry there aren't any pics, Austin...
Hey Family!
Here's my update:
WORK: I'm still working my two jobs. The Summer School job ends this week and I am VERY excited about that. I will be working my Preschool job in the afternoons until the end of the summer. It's too bad that I liked my Summer School job WAY better than the Preschool one, but that's okay.
CALLING: My calling in the ward is FHE Co-Chair. I helped arrange the FHE groups and stuff. Last Monday we had a Ward FHE doing a 'Dive-in' Movie. We watched JAWS while swimming in the pool. We were playing and having a blast way more than actually watching the movie. We had awesome treats that went along with the theme as well: goldfish, lifesavers, Swedish fish, etc.
SOCIAL: I went to Laugh Out Loud with some people in the ward on Friday night. It was the funniest show I've ever seen. My old mission companion, Hna. Hellewell came to visit on Thursday. It was good to see her. I've been pretty sick this week, so that has caused me to be less social and more boring. Justin and his kids came to visit this week for a day. It was a lot of fun. We swam, went to Wal Mart and of course to Legacy Hall...
INTERESTING: Anthony is getting married in Ogden next week (Thursday). I have really been looking forward to his wedding, seeing as how he is my favorite cousin and all...plus, I get to skip work! My marathon training is going well. Yesterday I ran for 2 hours straight. I was pretty sore to say the least! I got a letter from the Provo Temple and should be working there within the next month.
Sure love you guys!

Stuff...
Things are great here in P-town. We are just living it up, like always. This week was particularly fun because I went to the Manti Pagent, H.M.S. Pinafore shown on campus, and a totally awesome carnival in Orem, and saw Horton Hears a Who on Monday night. It was a blast!
I also started teaching 2nd grade summer school at Farrer from 8:30-12:30, M-Th. In the afternoons I teach at the Preschool from 2-6:15. It's a busy schedule, but at least summer school only lasts for 4 weeks. It's great experience for my teaching.
Ashley has been really sick this week...like almost every day. She is slowly getting better.
On Friday I went on a cousins date with Elaine, Cathy, and Amelia (yeah, kind of a weird group). It was fun though. We went up to Uncle Forrest's and had a barbeque and played games.
Many of you know that I am training for a marathon in October. It has really been consuming my life, but I'm excited to do it. It should be fun. I am also signed up to work as a temple worker here in Provo. It should be awesome. I hope they call me into work soon. Welp, I sure love you guys! Enjoy the pics! :)

I'm 24!!!
Well, I had a pretty awesome birthday...probably the best one yet, so I thought I would let you all know about it...
I got up early and Ashley made a huge pancake breakfast for a bunch of our buddies in the ward to celebrate my birth. A lot more people came than we expected and we were definitely flirting it up.
Then I got to school and the custodian had decorated my room complete with streamers, candy, flowers, balloons, etc. It came as quite a shock to me. When school started, several of my students brought me gifts and cards. One kid even brought in a cake. The principal came to my class and sang to me too.
As a great gift to me, Ashley came to my class and taught them for an hour. It was a nice break for me and they loved it. She also brought in cookies to share. Then I took the kids to PE.
When I picked them up, they had made me a birthday poster and wished me happy birthday. When it was lunch time, I the teachers gave me "snack packs", since that is my nickname and took me out to lunch. After lunch, I fed the kids cake and they said I was the best teacher ever.
I got about 70 facebook messages and 10 phone calls and then it was time for us to go to Brickoven to meet up for dinner. About 17 of my buddies showed up. It was a blast! There was barely enough room at the table for everybody. The best part was that I got to sit near my two crushes.
Afterwards we went to Bethany's house for cookie cake. She got me some candy and Ashley got me a dating book, flip flops, and a shirt. Then we got home just in time to go Salsa dancing with some friends. It was a lot of fun. I got to dance with this guy I like the entire night...pretty awesome.
I got home a little before 12 and the party wasn't over. One of our buddies brought over a cake and another brought me a card and there were more visits.
By the time it was midnight, I was sad that my birthday was over. All I know is that 24 is WAY BETTER than 23!!!!! :)

Family,
Well, I guess I forgot about a little promise that we each made at the August family reunion to post something on the family blog every month. I will try to do better. Things are going fine in my life. We just got through Dr. Seuss week at school...the kids loved it!! We even made green eggs and ham (I would eat them with a mouse!) I also started teaching Kindergarten after school. Now I teach until 5pm Monday-Thursday. It is really hard work, but good pay and experience. I have been sick all week, but I am getting over this horrible cold. I continue to go running every day and go to the temple and institute weekly. I am still dating Matt, but things have been pretty rocky lately, so we shall see. I started reading a Jeffrey R. Holland book. I am trying to be better a person by reading more. Anyways, I guess I don't have much else to say. I sure love you guys. Thanks for your prayers and support. You are awesome!
